Please note: Our study is designed to involve those who have been officially diagnosed with SLE. If you think you have lupus or would like more information about the disease itself, please contact your personal care provider.

HOW DO I BECOME PART OF THIS STUDY?

You begin participation by contacting our study coordinator.

WHAT WILL I BE ASKED TO DO?

  1. Give verbal and written consent to participate (written consent involves signing a consent form)
  2. Answer basic questions about yourself (ex: address, date of birth, ethnic background, diagnosis, etc.)
  3. Provide release of medical record information
  4. Contact some of your family members, asking them if they would also be willing to participate (this step is optional)
  5. Provide a small sample of blood, totaling about 4-5 tablespoons. This can be done in your local area, typically at your clinic or doctor's office.

DO I HAVE TO GO TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA TO PARTICIPATE?

No. You can complete all parts of participation in your local area.

IS THERE A COST TO PARTICIPATE?

No. There is no cost to be a part of this study.

IS THIS A DRUG STUDY?

No, this is a genetic study, not a drug study.

WILL I BE PROVIDED WITH RESULTS?

We provide periodic updates on the progress of the study through mailings and on our website. We are not able to provide participants with any of their individual or family results.

IS PARTICIPATION AND ALL MY PERSONAL INFORMATION COMPLETELY CONFIDENTIAL?

Yes, all participant information is kept completely confidential, compliant with federally-mandated HIPAA guidelines.
